PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Heroes and Heroines of Peace and Unity Initiative (HEPUI) is pleased to inform the general public that the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has approved the hosting of the maiden global lecture of the Home Security Laboratory (HSL) program.

This historic first lecture is dedicated in honour of Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, Executive Governor of Cross River State, in recognition of his people-centered leadership and commitment to sustainable peace, education, and security development.

The Home Security Laboratory (HSL) is an innovative, education-driven security awareness framework designed to equip students, school security officers, and communities with preventive knowledge, early-risk detection skills, and civic responsibility tools. Rather than focusing on enforcement, HSL emphasizes awareness, participation, and proactive problem-solving.

How the Program Benefits Students:

  • Develops critical thinking on security and community safety
  • Builds leadership and civic responsibility skills
  • Enhances early-warning and risk-identification capacity
  • Prepares students as ambassadors of peace within and beyond campus

How It Benefits Society:

  • Strengthens community-based security awareness
  • Reduces vulnerability to crime and social unrest
  • Promotes collaboration between institutions and communities
  • Positions Cross River State as a pioneer in preventive, education-based security innovation

This milestone event not only celebrates leadership but also positions Cross River State at the forefront of human-centered security reform through education.
