NHRC Appraise FG to intensify security
The National Human Rights Commission has charged the federal government to carry out a massive scrutiny of the nation’s security architecture and ensure that culprits in the incessant killings taking place across the country are urgently brought to book. The Commission’s Ag Executive Secretary, Tony Ojukwu Esq who made this call while reacting to the upsurge in recent killings across the country especially in Borno, Zamfara and Benue States, emphasized the urgent need for the security agencies to be on top of the situation to forestall further destruction of lives and properties as well as strengthen people’s confidence in the ability of government to protect them. He expressed deep concern over the recurrent killing of women and children in various communities across the nation saying that such an ugly scenario underscores the need to prevail on the various security agencies to explore new intelligence and investigation techniques that will effectively contain occurrences of such dastardly act. Related Story IDP Protection: NHRC/UNHRC Restrategise For 2018 Specifically, Mr Ojukwu stated that the reported killing of about 40 people in one episode in Zamfara state this week by unknown gunmen is not acceptable even as he disclosed that officials of the Commission’s State Office in Katsina have been directed to carry out an on the spot assessment of the human rights and humanitarian situation on ground with a view to ascertaining the level of destruction of lives and property in the affected communities and ensuring that law enforcement agents apprehend and prosecute the offenders. The Ag Executive Secretary is also using this medium to commiserate with the government and people of Zamfara, Borno, Benue and all other states affected by these killings, most especially the families of the victims over the death of their loved ones. He assured that the Commission will collaborate with other relevant agencies of government to ensure that justice is done. Share this:
